White City’s history

White City began on 80 acres owned by Johnston Lipsett, a resident of nearby Pilot Butte. The community organized as a hamlet on April 26, 1959, and became a village on March 1, 1967. It incorporated as a town on November 1, 2000.

The name comes from London, England. John Kadannek, a local store owner, persuaded Lipsett to name the place after White City, the home of his favourite aunt.

Today White City sits at the intersection of Highway 48 and the Trans-Canada Highway, in the White Butte region next to Balgonie, Pilot Butte and Regina. Most of its residents commute to work in the capital. The town has a library and a Canada Post office, and its motto is "Your Way of Life".
